Labor Day, the first Monday in September,
is a creation of the labor movement and is
dedicated to the social and economic achievements
of American workers.
It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the
contributions workers have made to the strength,
prosperity and well-being of our country.

Labor Day is also a "Goodbye to Summer"
A day of Picnics, and outdoor activities.
It is regarded as the last long weekend of summer
rather than a day for political organizing.
In 1995, less than 15 percent of American workers
belonged to unions, down from a high in the 1950's
of nearly 50 percent,
though nearly all have benefited from the victories
of the Labor movement.

Happy Labor Day!
