Running Buck Cross' Intro

The training was hard, and it was easy to fall asleep as soon as Buck's head hit the pillow. Buck had chosen a bottom bunk in middle of the back wall. Ike had taken the top bunk. Buck looked around the room and saw Andy and Alex on their bunks; Andy on the top bunk and Alex on the bottom bunk. Those two seemed like brothers when they arrived. Buck thought that the friendship that Andy and Alex had was the same kind of friendship that he and Ike shared.

Cody had chosen a top bunk near the front door to the left as you walk in. Jimmy was on the bottom bunk. Kid was on the bottom bunk opposite wall of Cody's and Jimmy's and Lou was on the top bunk. Noah was on the bottom bunk in the left corner of the room. Ted and Llyod were on the set of bunks in the right corner. Ted was ok, but he was clumsy. Buck wasn't sure if he would make a good Pony Express Rider or not. But it really wasn't up to him. Buck really hoped that Llyod wouldn't get hired. He could ride, but Buck was tired of doing Lloyd's share of the work. Llyod always tried to get someone else to do his chores.

The other boys were becoming close friends. He hoped that everyone else would get hired, and they could all be a family. Maybe this time no one would make him an outcast like the kids did in the mission school and the other members of his tribe did. Maybe this was the family that he had been looking for.
