DANCE SHEET INFORMATION |
BEFORE YOU START TEACHING FROM THESE SHEETS ...The way I set out my sheets may be new to you, but there is a reason for the format.I've taught line dancing for a number of years to people of varying ages & abilities. The format I have developed for my dance sheets is based on the teaching formula that works for me (and my students). Each dance has the total number of Beats & Walls indicated at the top of the sheet to give you the briefest overview of what's coming. The entire dance is then described in small "sets" of counts (normally 6 or 8 depending on the time signature). Each "set" has a heading (in blue) which gives you your cue for that set of counts, followed by the detailed description with individual counts.       i.e. |
1 - 8 | HINGE TURN, HOLD, HINGE TURN, HOLD, ½ TURN
1 | ½ Turn Anti-Clockwise on Ball of Right Foot
2 | Hinge Turn Clockwise on Ball of Left Foot
3 | Hold for 1 Count | ||
... and so on |
I find it easiest to cue dancers by "singing" out the steps, rather than just count out numbers. I work out where to break each "set" based on which grouping of movements work together as an easily taught (& learned) section. Sometimes this means there may be only 4 Counts, or it may go up to 16. And it's why I don't start at Count number 1 and work all the way through to the final count. I hope this explanation helps you understand where I'm coming from. You may or may not agree with my methods ... that's your prerogative, of course, but I hope you'll keep it mind when teaching a dance from one of the following sheets. Last, but not least, please remember I'm only human (as are all of us!). I've tried really hard to get these sheets perfect, but sometimes a glitch can turn up! If a dance REALLY feels wrong, odds are it is! Please don't hesitate to e-mail me if you have a question on how to execute a step, or if you think I've mucked something up! Hope you enjoy my dances,           warm fuzzies |
