Mason & Dixon
"Mason & Dixon"
It’s a five-hour drive out of Richmond
I prefer these midnight runs
There’s no one at home to sit and wait for me
Until my runnin’ is done
So I can take my time; sit back, enjoy the ride
And not feel guilty
About having her on my mind

I’ve got memories, Southern stars in the sky
And an achin’ deep in my heart
I’ve got the radio, an old broken promise
Not a lot of time to get far
I’ve got to make it to Philly before the sun
I guess I should probably start, and
I hope MASON AND DIXON are happy tonight
Wherever in the world they are

It’s three o’clock in the morning EDT
When I cross that famous line
On the radio George Strait wants to know, does
Fort Worth ever cross your mind?
I’m wondering that too; but I’m thinking of Boone
Up in the mountains
Under a Caroline sky of blue

I’ve got memories, Southern stars in the sky
And an achin’ deep in my heart
I’ve got the radio, an old broken promise
Not a lot of time to get far
I’ve got to make it to Philly before the sun
I’m making good time in the dark, and
I hope MASON AND DIXON are happy tonight
Wherever in the world they are

When the best man won, the other lost it all
When he took that girl up north, I took a fall
Now that line stirs up feelings
Deep in my heart, I can’t explain
And hope keeps on telling me
I won’t have to feel them someday
But tonight...
