In 1963 and 1964 Ernie Ashworth was voted "Most Promising Male Artist" by Cash Box, Billboard and Record World. Also in 1964, his lifelong dream came true when he joined The Grand Ole Opry on March 7. Young Ernie scored more hits. "A Week In The Country" made the Top Ten. "I Love To Dance With Annie" was in the Top Five. and "Pushed In A Corner" made the Top 15. They were followed by a string of hits that included, "Because I Cared", "The DJ Cried", "I Wish", "At Ease Heart", "Sad Face" and "A New Heart". For ten years, from 1960 to 1970, every record Ernie released made the national charts. Of these 12 were Top Ten hits. In between making hits, Ernie appeared in the movie "The Farmer's Other Daughter", in 1965. In 1989 Ernie, a successful businessman, bought radio station WSLV in Ardmore, Tennessee. In 1991 he received the "Living Legend Award" at the Major Independent Record Label Awards Show. Also in 1991, Curb Records released an album of original recordings of some of Ernie's top 10 hits from the 1960's. In 1992 Ernie was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall Of Fame. In that same year he recorded a new album for Playback Records and charted with "You Changed A Rolling Stone". In 1993 he contributed songs for a gospel album on the Playback label and also had a single with "I Wish" that made the independent charts. Ernie is still a much sought after artist.
