Longing
It has come now to the closing of Harriman High School Class of '49
50th Reunion. This will soon be another of yesterday's memories.
Yesterday's memories are likened to rippling waters of a mountain stream,
Mental images flowing through our mind. Refreshing, happy sad moments
That swirl about, allowing us to relive that special moment in time.
We have all come together again in fellowship and remembrance of past moments.
There is sadness when we view the vacant table set for those who
Left life's journey early, for reasons we do not understand.
Our journey in life has been one that no other group will experience.
Have you thought about the classes that graduated when we were freshmen?
Have you thought about the classes that graduated after we were gone?
I don't think we were the last of the Mohicans, but I do think we were different.
We have met in fellowship again tonight. I think we all still look the same.
Well, there may be a few who have aged, but
The heart and the eyes are the same as when we started our journey.
May we leave tonight with souvenirs and memories of the 50th and have a safe journey home.
As for me, quoting an Olympic expression, see you in Harriman, in 2004.
May God bless.
