Walkin' down a country road
I've walked so many times
It's good to see that this old road
Has stood the test of time
It wasn't all that far from here
My good ole daddy died
He'd been plowing fields all day long
In the southern summertime
Yonder near that old oak tree
Stood the barn I think it's gone
But that ole house where I was raised
Well daddy made it strong
I can still hear him calling me
'Cause my chores were never done
To the man my daddy raised
He could do no wrong
His hands were hard his face was tired
And his dreams were never filled
And he walked the floors with all of us
When each of us took ill
And I'm sure at times he must have cried
But he never let us know
To the man my daddy raised
He could do no wrong
I remember that summer I plowed those fields
And stood in daddy's place
I swear he stood there next to me
I swear I saw his face
And I swear while standing here today
I heard him calling out
To the man my daddy raised
To grow up strong
The man my daddy raised
Grew up strong
