Pam.......
Doug....
This is downtown Nelson which is both an historic visitor attraction and a thriving commercial district. We had a very nice lunch at an outdoor cafe and wandered around town on foot. The buildings shown on this picture were built around 1900.
Reluctantly we (I) packed up Tuesday morning and off we set for Nelson etc. Doug and I have never seen the towns of Nelson and Kimberly. Nelson is where they filmed the movie with Steve Martin called Roxanne where he has this big nose. Its a
picturesque town set on a hillside and very beautiful again with the lake and mountains. (Do you notice the theme of lakes, mountains and rivers?...gosh I have missed them).
We had lunch at a patio restaurant in Nelson and spent some time window shopping. From Nelson the road dips south to the U.S. border through towns with names of Ymir, Salmo and Yahk then it turns north to Cranbrook. We moteled it in Cranbrook that night as we got in late.
Nelson as you see is nestled on the shore of Kootenay Lake between these peaks of the Monashee Mountain Range, we aren't
even in the rockies yet, and is a bustling community with lumber and hydro electric power generation as it's main income.
