If you have to live in
Ohio, Columbus is the town to be in. It's not too
big, not too small, pretty clean, and has a decent music
scene.....I said 'decent'....
Anyhow, there are some places that
I like to hang out at, some bands I like to
hear, and a few publications that I may or
may not read, depending on my mood.
...and some can be found
on line!!
Coffee
Shops:
I used to hang out at the
Idiot Boy Cafe, but it closed down for
reasons that most of us are afraid to mention.
It is now re-opened under the name, the Slow Crow.
Insomnia is a decent summertime
coffee shop. However, I don't frequent the
place as often because all the patio-people
scare me.
Someone with a lot of time on his hands
chose to compile an excellent guide to
Columbus coffee shops.
Live Music:
Bernie's Bagels and Distillery is an
excellent place to go hear some music. Why?
Because the place is literally a basement...one
feels like a beatnik or a refugee once in the place.
Besides, they feature a lot of cool bands.
Notal's Rockers in my place of choice on Monday
night. Local Color plays there....the music is good;
the crowd is friendly, and all sorts of fun and
menacing things can be found there.
South Heidleberg: I'm not sure if I
spelled it right, but something has to be
said for this little dive place that used to
be a Prohibition bar....there's a bit of local
history to witness. Look for the sign that says,
"George Washington spat here."
Newport Music Hall -- sucks. Too many people,
too much sound, too much smell.
Ruby Tuesday's would be a nice place to
hear music if I were 21 years old. Same goes
to Oldfield's on High.....lots of good bands play there.
Local Music Guides......
Cringe: online local music magazine
and email list.
Local Music Scene: not the most creative title
but something to look at anyhow.
The Ohio State University:
Music and Dance Library: my current place
of employment. The Audio/Visual Center is
my special domain.
School of Music: mommy told me that
if I have nothing nice to say, then I shouldn't
say anything at all.
