Families - 2 sides to every Genealogy Story

Family is something to be proud of. Everyone has a blood-line that can be explored, with a little bit of effort and a lot of time. Researching one's family background can be exciting. Who knows what grand things your ancestors may have done, created, or lived through. Sometimes, it can be just as fun trying to find distant cousins.

I am building a separate Web Page titled PIZZANO/VAN METER Family Tree Home Page. This will include Photos. You can go there now but I do not currently have a link back to this page.

Whether you are Italian or not, here are some places you might try starting with in order to find your family tree.

For The Italian Minded:

• Italian Genealogy Home Page
• Italian Surnames A list of surnames in the Italian Genealogy Home Page database.
• P.I.E. - POINTers In E-mail. This is an organization made up of persons who are Pursuing Our Italian Names Together. It links those members of POINT through E-mail. POINT is a data base of Italian Names. For more information regarding POINT and membership, visit the home page, or contact Dr Thomas Militello at POINT International Headquarters Box 14966, Dept. PHP - Las Vegas, NV 89114 - 4966 USA

A Few Home Pages to Take Note of:

• Start with Cyndi Howell's Home Page, or go directly to her Italian page. A must for anyone doing research of Italian Names.
• Joe's Italian Genealogy Page is another great stop!
• Mike Madeo's Home Page and Annita Zalenski's Family History Page, both have great links. Annita's page is accompanied by music.
• A Great Calabrian Heritage Home page has been done by George Lilli.

Other Italian Links Worth Investigating:

• The Order of the Sons of Italy in America.
• "Il Circolo Filippo Mazzei" of Washington, D.C. - The Washington DC chapter of POINTers in Person. Other Chapters of POINTers In Person - PIP exist, of course. (PIP is the American GATHERING of Italian Genealogists. Now twenty chapters+ across the United States - and growing.)
• Cognomi. Italian Surnames listing from Italy with e-mail links to the provider.
• Radici - The Italian Genealogy WebClub.
• Genealogy Home Page. Talks about things you need to know about genealogy in general. ( A great place to start! "GENERALLY" speaking. )
• The G.M.W. That's the Genealogy Most Wanted Page surname list/lookup and assist. Helping your fellow researcher is what this page is all about.

Last, but not least, I've found a wonderful person who designs graphics for web pages.
She's Susanna Buffo. Check out her Home Page. You'll really enjoy her work.

Another thing you might want to research is your family Coat-Of-Arms. Unfortunately, my family's coat is unavailable to me as it is believed to be in the posession of a relative who is ailing. I doubt the Coat's location is actually known by that relative, too. Despite this fact, I have the general PIZZANO Coat-Of-Arms that is documented in CROLLALANZA'S DIZIONARIO STORICO-BLASONICO. Its description of the SHEILD is as follows: "D'ARGENTO, AL LEONE D'ORO, LAMPASSATO DI ROSSO." Translated, it states: "SILVER; A GOLD LION, TONGUED RED." Hopefully, I will someday be able to display a picture of the COAT. (I don't expect to be able to get my hands on the true family COAT, but something is better than nothing.) The whole point of this is just to bring another facet of family pride to light.
