Stromboli For the dough: For the filling: |
Dissolve the yeast into the warm (110 degree F) water. Add the sugar, salt, oil, and 1 cup of the flour and mix well. Let rest for 15 to 30 minutes...I usually take this opportunity to have a glass of wine. Add the rest of the flour 1 cup at a time beating after each addition. Knead the dough, adding more flour if needed until you have a medium soft dough. Allow the dough to rise for an hour then punch down and let it rise another hour...If you're in a hurry go to McDonald's or have some more wine. Roll the dough out into a large oval. Cut the long edges of the oval into strips. Lay the meat, alternating with the cheese and tomato sauce in the center of the oval. Lace up the loaf by weaving the strips together over the top of the meat, cheese and sauce. (If you don't get this part...maybe you should just order a pizza) Allow to rise an additional 20 minutes (better get another bottle of wine...) Bake at 375 for about a half an hour...if it burns bake it less next time. To serve: slice it up, what else? This recipe serves 8 or if you're like us 4. |
