Shadowboxing

So many never realize

the only demons in their lives are those they've

formed of greed and pain and fear

And so they battle in the night

and cringe and cry and pray

for safety till the morning light

can take their fears away

Solid walls of indecision

block the doors to their salvation

making obstacles of all that comes there way

They fight famine in the desert

and civil war a million miles from home

to avoid the urge to analyze

their own lives

Shadowboxing against imaginary monsters

while the truth of their situation

sneaks up to stap

them in their unprotected backs.
