Hidden Desires
The rhythmic drumming
hums in my bloodstream
as I lie on the couch
in the basement.
And I wish that I had
the nerve to take
the drumsticks from
your fingers
and place my hands on your shoulders
and look deep into your eyes. . .
(but I know that if I touch you
I'll be lost forever . . .)
I wish that I had the never
to tell you that I care
(so intensely that I can't
breathe when I see you) . . .
but all I can do is lie
here in the basement
of the music department
soaking up your presence
like a drug . . .
