Journals 2007

Monday, October 22
I will get caught up eventually. Thankfully I've been keeping somewhat of a jogging-log this year, so I can get some journals up here. It's been awhile since my last "true" journal entry (8/3/07). I have since ran the Jack Pine 5-miler, the Hurley Marathon-Relay, the Pancake 5K, Barron Half Marathon, and the Ashland Marathon. All races were decent, with the Hurley and Ashland races rocking!!!

I hit the road for a quick 1-miler last Thursday (5 days after the marathon). I had intentions of doing 3 miles, but my body was still a bit tender, and besides, I needed to use the bathroom, so I turned back early.

Tonight, I hit the road for my first real run since the marathon, and I felt great. My left knee is twinging ever so little at this moment, but it was such a beautiful evening for running! 60/70's for October!!! Unbelievable. I am keeping my options open of running a 5K in early December near Jen's house. I've already done better on my "post-marathon" goal than last year. I sat on my duff after the race last year, but I want to keep some miles under my feet over the winter months this year. I have intentions of running the Green Bay Half-marathon in May (or even the full marathon, depending...) so I don't want all of my base-mileage to evaporate.

Sittin' here, listening to my recently purchased "The Race is On," and getting set for the Spooner 5 mile tomorrow.  Not willing to opening admit that I'm sipping on an Amaretto-sour right now, but heck.....I really don't think it'll kill me.  Afterall, it's just a 5-miler;  next week is a different story.  That Marathon-relay is coming up quick, and I really need to be motivated on Sunday to hit 10 miles.  I hope it won't be too unrealistic: afterall, I'm running tomorrow (minor), but then playing volleyball all day at Jack Pine.  I can't wait!

The rash I've been plagued with has finally subsided.  A few minor spots are still aggravated, but at least it's not completely overbearing to the point it disturbs my runs.  I didn't run at all this week after Sunday's 8 miler, until last night.  I set out for the track to do 4-6 Lasso 800's at 4:50 pace (2:25/lap.)  Nicely, I demolished that pace goal and ran 3:49's just about everyone (I did 4). Then I walked a lap before running a mile (1600) for time.  I wasn't overly impressed with the time, but I accepted it after running 4 Lasso's and a mile warm up.  I was consistent for the first 3 laps, running 2:01, 2:02, 2:02, and then kicked it to 1:45 to finish with 7:50.

I hope to run at or below 9 min/mile tomorrow, so ultimately my lowest acceptable time will be 45:00.  I haven't looked back at my Superior run in 2003, but I think it was right around mid 43's.  Julie is showing up tomorrow at 7:15 to head out, so I'm signing off to pack up for the day of running and volleyball and SUN! :0)  Thankfully, forecast for tomorrow seems to be the best of the week:  only 79 degrees projected for the high (and hopefully LOW humidity.)

Didn't run today, nor x-train.  This rash that became noticable last Wednesday/Thursday is really annoying and I don't feel like aggravating it anymore by running in this heat and humidity.  Tomorrow is going to be the worst heat-wise, so I really should buckle down and hit the treadmill and weights tomorrow morning!

I've really lacked with nutrition for the past week, too!  Not eating my meals, eating poor food choices... :0(  Rough day today, motivationally!  I hope to get back on the ball tomorrow.

This past week up in Ashland (the Farm) was overly tempting!   Poor choices of food were all over the place: Scotch-a-roo bars, cakes, pies, S'mores, candy...  I managed okay, but definitely could have been better.  Tuesday night consisted of 8 S'mores, and Wednesday night consisted of Banana-cream pie, Chocolate Moouse pie and Rhubard pie.  I was very glad when Thursday rolled around to head to Jen's house where I knew food choices were going to be much better and very less tempting!  The 5-hour drive was actually enjoyable, too!  No kids!

The time at Jen's was great--relaxing--nice to catch up and spend time with Jen.  We walked Friday afternoon and I ran her through a few General Pickups (GP's).  At the time I didn't think about how sore her legs might be for the race on Saturday, since she hasn't completed GP's before.  Sorry Jen!

Race Day was a little less than normal.  I woke up tired, and didn't feel the greatest.  My stomach and intestines didn't feel right, a bit crampy, and I was worried I was going to be sick sometime during the race.  The starting line temp was 68 and the finish showed 70, so weather was nice!  The race placed two sprinklers along the course at mile 1.5 and just before mile 3.  VERY NICE!  I wanted to pace myself right around 8:30 (maybe 8:15 if I was feeling good.)  Soooo, 1st mile comes along and I clocked a 7:20!  Oh dear!  I wasn't feeling that bad at this time, but I knew I needed to back off or I would be running out of gas at the end of the race.  Around mile 1.6/1.7, I walked for 20 seconds, and then again at mile marker 2 water station. Mile 2 clocked in at 8:20, so I dropped a whole minute.  I haven't done the calculations yet to see what my final 1.125 mile was.  I am pleased with my final time of 25:22--it's my 2nd best time ever.  All three of my top times (all 25's) have been at the MACC Run.  It's a great course!

Unfortunately, I was once again overlooked when it came to determining places.  I earned 3rd, but had to clear up this fact before receiving my medal.  So, the 4th place runner walked away with a bronze, also.  Oh well.

I came across the fact that there is a 10K in Ashland next Sunday--I'll have to see what our plans are--maybe we'll go up and I'll run in it.

I figured I'd give the page a bit of a cleanup, and decided to start up a journals page.
