Cassie's 30s quilt

June 22, 2008

The finishing touches have been put on Cassie's quilt and it is now on her bed.

After completing the piano-keys-border quilting (simple stitch-in-the-ditch), I actually put "real" binding on, needing to whip-stitch to the back.  Well, after a few hours, my finger started hurting.  What to do?? Duct tape!

I put the last stitch in at 8:20, and by 8:30 it was on the bed being used by Cassie.

Historical note: This is the first UFO/project that was completed on the new Bernina.

April 12, 2008:
I don't have a special name for this quilt yet---so the listed heading might just have to suffice.
I pulled out the quilt in hopes to wrap it up this weekend. It's been on the UFO pile since October.

The top went together VERY FAST in October. I saw this in the Keepsake Quilting catalog, and drafted up the blocks by site. Within a week of only working after the girls had gone to bed (ie: roughly 8:00 - 10:00 pm), the blocks were finished. (Well, almost!) I ran out of the white I was using, so I had to alter the size of the quilt and reduce it by a few blocks.

The top was pieced that Saturday, so long ago. And I was gung-ho to start the quilting right away, and recall that I did start that Sunday......but......

...but after starting again after so many months, I REMEMBERED why I had put it aside! For some frustrating reason, my thread keeps breaking. I'm not just talking once or twice...no...THAT I could handle. But, seriously.....it breaks just about everytime I get to a seam. I'm doing a simple meandering/stipple quilting in all the white areas of the blocks.

May this possibly be a lesson learned------Press seams open if I plan to quilt that heavily again!

But, success! I finished quilting all the blocks. All that remains is to do something in the borders --- probably just stitching in the ditch along the horizontal pieces.

Here's my favorite block. The pink came from a shirt of Grandma Lee's.

Actually, I really don't know if it's my favorite! I like so many of them!

I mean, take the top Yellow/Green block in the picture to the left. That reminds me of the Green Bay Packers!!! (sigh---I'm going to miss Brett.)

I took this picture without the flash, so the quality is definately poor. However, I wanted to highlight the quilting.
