Deer Camp
April 8, 2008:
On Saturday, I went to a quiltshow in Rice Lake. Debbie Field (Granola
Girl) was the featured booth, and I ended up spending a lovely (undisclosed)
amount of money. I have been admiring her Deer Camp kit for a litlte while,
but when I saw a LARGE quilt hanging with the Deer Camp panel in the middle
of log cabin blocks, I fell in love. I believe she plans on putting the designing
in one of her next publications, BUT I can't wait that long!
I purchased the Deer Camp kit, in addition to a few couple yards of other fabrics to create my version of her log cabin Deer Camp. I spend a few hours drawing up the plan, and I was struggling with the number of blocks needed around the Deer Camp panel. The only way to "make them fit" resulted in having an odd number of blocks along the edges of the panel. I am a VERY geometric and symmetrical piecer, so I was having a hard time visually putting log cabin blocks around the entire panel. Rather, I created a block that resembles a Courthouse Step to place in the center of each side.
Here is the first pre-finished picture I have. I need to add borders yet before it will be considered pieced.
