Dig This!

These are just some things I would suggest that you check out. As we can probably tell by now, I like to think of myself as an artist of some sort. One thing I think that is terribly important when dealing with art and especially art of a progressive or innovative type is the time period from which this particular art is coming. Try to relate works of art to historical happenings and to other works of art from the same era. This will get you to a better understanding of what you are looking at/listening to/reading or all 3 at once. Let's take an example of which I am particularly fond: the impressionist era. (Digression: the funniest thing to me about the impressionists is that if you ever told them they were impressionists, they would probably get violent.) Take a piece of artwork from someone like Monet and look at it while you listen to a piece by Debussy. One should start to notice something common to this era. What I have noticed is a great sense of something I call "floaty" or "flowy". I am really not trying to sound pretentious here. Email me with your thoughts.
