Comstar 320GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive With RJ-45 Network Connection
- a re-branded Ximeta NetDisk hard drive
- a NDAS drive (installing a software). This drive can be used to backup and/or share files with a simple router.
- This drive allows you to share files without having to configure complicated network settings using Windows OS.
- You also don't need to have an extra computer running 24x7 to be able to share files.
- NDAS software drivers that come with the disk support the SMART self-monitoring, analysis and reporting technology attributes, which is not common from USB drives. There are some good, free utilities for reading the SMART attributes and they can help predict disk failures.
- HDD gets quite warm when in heavy use ex copying files to it over like an hour But it does go into a standby mode automatically after a little while of inactivity which keeps it cool.
- you have to unmount it before going into sleep or hibernate or it can cause some headaches when you get out
- Over my network I got speeds of about 7.5megabytes per second so not too bad though not very good
- Mine randomly decides to stop responding in both USB and network modes. Some times it even stops spinning. The problem is intermittent but it's frequent enough that I have been unable to perform a full reformat.I suspect it is due to an intermittent internal connection caused by low quality connectors or sloppy assembly.
