"Strangers of Fortune"

by Meagan M. Peter

Welcome to my first complete book of poetry. The work was begun just before the summer of 1998 and completed sometime in the beginning of 1999, after my life had irrevocably changed. Although the charcater and situations are fictional, there's a lot of me in Fortune, and I've found that there's a lot of Fortune in me. I wish her the best as we part ways; I know in my heart that unlike me, she could never truly settle down and be married.

Please click "More" after the Prologue and continue reading; eventually I hope to spread the wholw book out over a few more pages, so that it's easier to read in chunks. Enjoy!

prologue

Caress the soul of a spirit
Pull the little red lever and watch the wheels go 'round
Is luck on your side?
Well, Fortune's in town
And the air is sweet with regret.
Precious glances are her sustenance,
and the nectar of innocent kisses

She twirls her skirts through the steps of the endless waltz
And it's all brand-new to her.

Naked to the moon above.
