This is a collection of poems written throughout my elementary, jr. high and high school years. I wrote them for a variety of situations...some were written for my English/GATE class, otherse for contests, and still others in the throes of adolescent angst. Can you guess which ones are which?;)HAIKUS (written in 1985 for GATE/English 6 class)
Yellow daffodils Bright swaying field of gold Nature's best portrait Cool dark green forest Sunlight flickering through cracks Leaves whisper their secrets Leaving someone you love Emotional goodbyes said A plane passes by
Halloween All through Halloween night, the evil crept With doom following in its wake But concerning the pumpkins before that time Had made the townspeople ignorant and blind Within the dense fog and beyond the way Silence penetrated and was made to stay. Among the headstones, near the graves, the evil rose up and stole away. Throughout the cemetery, the coldness penetrated and a sound rose a lonely sound which pervaded through the air and seeped to the soul Towards the town, the evil crept semmingly harmless behind its mask, without, death within its grasp Now the evil strong and deep, readied to do battle with the good of deed. As it readied to eter and strike, Into its path was shed the morning light The evil sank only to rise once more The next Halloween when it would rule again (This poem was written after viewing Disney's Fantasia and the piece "Night on Bald Mountain" ) Fire- (To be read in a sepulcharal tone) (an assignment to personify an inanimate object)
The fire is gleaming bright Under the dark starry sky Bright and flickering it burns on the hearth. hidden danger behind its smile For the fire's beckoning finger hypnotizes It has led many unsuspecting victims to perils unknown Just yesterday, a child passed away As she speaks with her tawny hair in disarray, she creeps forth, silently observes the victims plight. Then strikes. The baby grows harmless and weak to a powerful proud hazard. Unmercifully it burns, tearing the skin with a cackling laugh and a delightful sheen Fire can kill but also can heal Legends speak of it with grace Arsonists use it with hate If not used properly, it will kill Fire can burn away shame But Suttee is the Indian woman's bane Fire can burn and it can light From the very first soark to the very last light When that happens, man's life shall be dark REVENGE (these poems are all on the theme of revenge and its consequences)
FAMILY PRIDE (based on reading of Romeo and Juliet) I hold it not a sin To kill for family pride All I hold sacred is the honor of my kin For them only, tears have I cried To me, a slur on the family name is death itself, a personal hell No longer a child, but a warrior am I watch out for me, ring the warning bell Sword drawn, I advance to the fight Your rage cannot match my own I call on deeper forces and strength to imbue me with might I will gain the upper hand, soon you will be gone Actually it is not I, the warrior who has won, but the regaining of honor and that justice, sweet justice that has been won. hate on second sight is revenge Revenge is never sweet when forced patience and bitter rage in their unsavory union meet DESIRE Creeping up behind you, just to find my way in, I am desire, your longing to sin You kicked me out once, but I have yet to begin Have you forgotten? Evil, sweet evil will always win You're trying to hide behind the smile the jokes, the laughter, but all the while You've tucked me away (you thought) but much to your dismay Have you rested much since you've sent me away? I'm your second side, the other half of the coin Alone and empty you stand Together we join Dark nights you worry That you'll fall into my trap You'll fuel me into a fire Ah, you'll be mine to have Leaving your mind, I enter your soul The fire, the pain, the madness, the glow You're not yourself anymore, you're gone! The fire, the flame the fire the flame leaving you burnt I'll take the blame It's over now.. you can't do without me I'm your master, your lover, your king I am desire, your longing to sin go to my Winterlights Page for thoughts on Love and Friendship!
