Where They Not Just Our Enemies
Well it finally
came to a point in my life that I just had to take a vacation. I did not
want to do the "normal" thing. No running half nude on the sand
beaches of Hawaii, or taking some cruise in an ocean or two.
Now, I am not one
to just completely loose my head and try snow boarding out a plane, so
I asked around for people's suggestions. Once I got enough, I crossed all
those locations off the map. I ended up with a few eastern countries, Antarctica,
and Russia.
Well I have been
to Japan, so there goes the eastern countries (for now) and Antarctica
was just a bit too cold for my taste. Plus running around on ice packs
is not idea of a good time. So I picked Russia.
With Russia now
set in stone, I called around and got a two week round trip ticket to St.
Petersburg. Now you might ask why I picked only one city. Well, this city
has 5.6 million people in it, has all kinds of history, looks as if it
belongs as part of NATO, has the second largest art museum (Paris wins
this one), and has all kinds of cool buildings. I happen to love art and
architecture, so this was the city for me.
Off I went to St.
Petersburg Russia on September 10th, 1996. Below are some of my photos
along with some interesting stories and Stupid American Comments.
