Conflict

by Michael C. Shivar

You probably didn’t see this coming I told you once before But for the time you had changed my mind As my hand released the door

You say my reasons were not good enough But you thought your terms were fair Putting my ideas to the side As my hand ran through your hair

And now I know deep conviction You can’t confuse me where it’s from It was selfish ways that I am in this haze Doing to you what I shouldn’t have done

I told you I would write it You didn’t think it would go this way I’ve let you go in way over your head Because I am afraid your heart will break

But I can’t keep going with this Can’t let you keep your love for me You could have your eyes on another guy Instead of holding out for me

You like my arms around you You like my hands holding you tight I’d like to find someone with the time That can really do you right

I tried to tell you early You ignored the words I said And Jewel sings her Foolish Games As you cry alone in bed

That’s nothing that I wanted That’s the last thing that I need I’ve been there with a broken heart Never thought it could come from me

Titanic would have pushed you further Leave you sinking in the sea And I withheld my kiss from your pretty lips I didn’t want you to ever hate me
