Old Man

by Michael C. Shivar

It happened again today I fell down on my way to class Why does it always go this way Digging myself out of the trash If I have to wake up to this Then let me sleep forever Because it is hard living When you know the truth And the truth is a lie Lived day by day Do the angels mourn in heaven (As much as they cry with praise After a new saint raises his head) When the mighty have fallen? I've fallen, will I rise again To fall once more, I've fallen There have been people slain After I've fallen, my head in shame Failed this morning, this very minute Don't want to fall unless it's for good When I plunge into my bed of sand Only ran to bury me in the sand Yeah, I've failed, promises broken ( I swear to you) You can count on me, to let you down, I promise I don't even have to try, it's inherent Mike, saint Mike, fallen to his death 'Twas a shame, if they only knew it was a sham Woman, I wish I met you under a different set of circumstances I am sure you are something special But I will never know, never know just how My bones grow tired now As I sit here, as before, as I am, as I might as well stay, Alone...
