Pass On By

by Michael C. Shivar

Wake up every morning Get dressed to start my day Eaten half my breakfast But had forgotten how to pray Looking for my car keys As my Bible smiles at me Just found my missing wallet But I've forgotten how to read So I ride on down the highway Advertisements catch my eye Mostly saying, "Need food, God bless" As I just pass on by Pull up to the stop light Man begging for some change The radio gets louder As I look the other way When you were chomping Cheerios Did he have something to eat? And when you were buying those fancy clothes Did he have shoes on his feet? And when you passed on by in your fancy car Did you see his hopeless stare? And when you pass by on the other side Did you forget how to care? Back to the Hall of Art 1
