WEAVING
FOR MINIATURES
There is the initial designing process, which I do not show here
Weaving Miniatures requires using yarns as thin as sewing thread
The first step in dressing the loom is to measure
out the warp on a warping board
This oak board was made by my husband
The warp is removed, a chain is made and taken to the loom
Each individual thread is then passed through the reed
using a reed hook
All threads through the reed...40 to 60 threads per inch
Using a heddle hook, each individual thread is passed
through a single heddle according to the desired pattern
Threads are tied at the back beam in bouts
All is wound onto the back beam
Using maximum tension, the thread ends are tied onto
the front apron rod at the breast beam
Crawling under the loom, the treadles are tied to the
lamms according to the pattern
Pressing down on a treadle with my foot
a shed is created through which a shuttle is thrown
The beater is brought forward to pack in the shot
Bobbins are wound...this winder was also made by my husband
Now the fun begins !!
Most of my patterns require 2 shuttles
After the weaving is cut off from the loom, there is the finishing
The warp ends are first secured
All weaving needs a wet finish to get the threads
both warp and weft to merge happily together
Hope you've enjoyed this journey into handweaving !!
