Loneliness

I looked across the emptiness, as vast as vast could be,
Nothing there, no hope, no light, as far as one could see.

The emptiness, so fathomless, it surpasses time and space,
Nothing there, forever, one could see no other place.

The emptiness, the hunger, an unquenched thirst and need,
Like a wound ripped open, forever, left to bleed.

The emptiness, the darkness, so black no light could show,
A burning cold, so bitter, the coals refuse to glow.

The emptiness, so enormous, it engulfs all things in view,
Until at last, it will consume, my memories of you.
