The story is about Padaiyappa ( Rajinikanth ) who is the son to a rich Jamindar ( Sivaji Ganesan ). He is engineering graduate working as a mechanic in the city. When he came for his sister's ( I don't know who ) wedding, he fell in love with Vasundhra ( Soundarya ). Meanwhile, his uncle's daughter ( Ramya Krishnan ) falls for him. She is sort of like a psycho who doesn't let anyone have what she can't have. If you can't imagine it, think of Jamil.

    The trouble starts when Sivaji's brother ( Manivannan ) wants half of the family property. Sivaji gives all of it to Manivannan as he doesn't want to split the property and he and his family goes out of the house. While going out, Sivaji dies, duh... The new place where Rajini and fly are staying is a granite hill. He finds out and becomes rich. He marries Soundarya, despite Ramya who likes him and after eighteen years, the story starts again.

    Ramya uses her brother's son to court Rajini's daughter, but it backfires and that fellow REALLY falls in love with Rajini's daughter. Lastly, when Rajini tries to get his daughter and Ramya's brother's son to marry, she tries to stop it with a machine gun. But, Rajini saved her live by stopping a bull that was going to butt her. She killed herself with the gun, saying that she doesn't need to live a life that Rajini has saved for her. Her last words were ' I'll come back for you even in the next generation '.

    That's the end of the story, and everybody lives happily ever after.
