Dark’s Top Ten
1. IT: Stephen King - To tell the truth, i liked this book because it scared the hell out of me.
2. The Phantom Toll Booth: Norman Juster - I read this book when I was in grade 4 (I think) and, let’s put it this way, it is the only book that I remember from that period, so it must have been good!!
3, 4, 5. Magic’s Pawn, Magic’s Promise and Magic’s Price: Mercedes Lackey - These books tell the story of a young boy that travels to a new place to become what he has always dreamed of being, a bard. But when he arrives, he discovers that he doesn’t have the talent to be a Master Bard, but a Master Mage. Oh, and he’s also gay, which, in the beginning, gives him more grief than he would like. But, he overcomes, and goes on to become the nation’s saviour. Sounds corny, but they are extremely well-written books. I recommend these to anyone who is looking for something different.
6. Roots: Alex Haley - This was an amazing book ... really gives insight into the lives of slaves and the attrocities that they had to endure ... should be required reading for all high school students.
7. Shadowfires: Dean Koontz - Great story, scary as hell ... I think its what kept me reading Koontz’ books.
8. The Firebrand: Marrion Zimmer Bradley - The fall of the city of Troy, told from the perspective of Cassandra ... a refreshing look at an ancient story.
9. Jurassic Park: Michael Crichton - Why he ever let the movie be released the way it is is a mystery to me ... READ THE BOOK!!!
10. If I Pay Thee Not In Gold: Piers Anthony and Mercedes Lackey - A story where the women rule, and the men are slaves ... magic and illusion play a great role in this story. Great if you’re looking for a nice, light read.
