Seeing as how mainly I read Science Fiction, to be more accurate, Star Wars novels, promising Del this would be a non-Star Wars list was difficult. I managed however to come up with these. (Note to reader: these books
are not listed nor ranked by appeal, they are all just great books in my mind.)
Enders Game-Orson Scott Card-If you read this book, you either loved it or hated
it. I fall into the former category. Someone once said to me, this book is the closest to perfection a book could be. No sequels are required. I tend to agree with her.
The Memory of Earth-Orson Scott Card-Another Card book, another winner.
The Call of Earth-Orson Scott Card-See above statement
Watership Down-Richard Adams-Appealing tale of rabbits forced to leave their warren and trek across dangerous countryside. Odd viewpoint but another winner in my list.
Moby Dick-Herman Melville-Read this when I was 13. An ensnaring tale of a mad captains quest that spells certain doom for the ship and her crew. A timeless classic.
A Journey to the Center of the Earth-Jules Verne-An epic of a somewhat eccentric man and his quest to the center of the gourd we call Earth.
The Tommyknockers-Stephen King-Not a big fan am I. Read this when I was 7. No one thought I could but I’m a smart one. A chiller about “odd alien waves” hypnotizing a small town. Will always remember this for the sense of achievement I feel, right up there with Moby Dick.
Playboy-Hugh Heffner-Just mixin’ pleasure with business. I apologize, that was
WRONG.......Playboy is a magazine, not a book.....
The Han Solo Trilogy-A.C. Crispin-Oh hell, I can’t help it, had to add one.
Ever wonder what Han Solo did before the movies? It’s all here.
The Smurfs’ Fun For All Activity book-Non-stop color a minute thrills!
Papa Smurf, Smurfette! They’re all here!
Goosebumps #1-56-R.L. Stine-Hell yeah! Who don’t like Goosebumps? They scare the HELL outta me!
Any books with pictures-Who doesn’t like picture when they’re reading?
The Hobbit-J.R.R. Tolkien-A quaint tale of a hobbit and a dozen or so dwarves on a quest for treasure.
The Fellowship of the Ring-J.R.R. Tolkien-One of a few superb sequels worthy of being read by itself.
The Two Towers-J.R.R. Tolkien-The sequel to the sequel, great read.
The return of the King-J.R.R. Tolkien-See above statement.
Note From Delphica: I NEVER said one couldn’t submit an entirely Star Wars list, or any other kind of list, for that matter. What do you think we’re running here, some sort of fascist Reading Room?
