Reading Room Scorchya’s Top Ten Books
In no particular order:
1. Collected Poetry of Carl Sandburg (cause everytime I read it I find more to like)
2. Bambi by Felix Salten (if only because the speech between the two dying leaves is one of the greatest expressions of love I’ve ever come across.)
3. The Art of War by Sun Tzu (strategy for life)
4. The Lives and Times of Archy and Mehitabel (Archy is a cockroach and Mehitabel is an alley cat whose kittens are the result of mating with a coyote. This is a collection of poetry that Archy writes by jumping up and down on the typewriter keys at night and his observations on life are as sound now as when it was written during the Depression. And it’s just funny as hell.)
5. Property Of by Alice Hoffman
6. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (I still can’t believe a 17 yr old wrote it)
7. The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum
8. Ivanhoe by Walter Scott (A champion knight that vanquishes about 5 Normans and is about to drop from his wounds. He still has to fight one more challenger, when he’s joined by a mysterious black knight who suddenly tears onto the field and gives the Normans new assholes. Even Robin Hood shows up. It doesn’t get much better than that.)
9. Rambo by David Morrell (because I thought it read more like poetry than a novel and no movie could do it justice)
10. Lightening and Watchers by Koontz (can’t decide which I liked better)
