: Should the guild discourage the use of this tool ?
tough question....it can be a help to newbies, but for quality, nothing can beat the great graphics software out there. It's kinda like the old question of using calculators in a math class. Do the kids learn math that way? :)
: Should the guild accept sites that create avatars using it ?
Can't see a reason not to, although it allows nothing in the way of artistic expression. If someone's going to copy avatars, they'll do it straight from our sites anyway using other software or as a simple save. My problem with it is the ability to copy personal avs directly from the chat rooms and possibly impersonate someone using a similar name.
: Is it a good tool for newbies to use to make avatars ?
Sure it could be useful to newbies...makes avatar creation easy, but without the ability to edit, avs would be mediocre at best unless capturing from a very high quality graphic. For those unfamiliar with cropping to maintain perspective, it could be useful........
: Is the only thing wrong the marketing angle ?
I downloaded and tried it. In my opinion, for those of us making avatars for our galleries it's cumbersome and limited. Avs are stored as .bmp files...so after they're made you have to go look them up and convert them with your graphic software anyway. Might as well just use your regular graphic software with all the goodies on it from the beginning. The marketing angle is the pits...to promote 'stealing' as a way to sell a product is unethical to say the least.
my 2 cents.....
