Transparency in Avatars

I Use PhotoShop Deluxe to make my Avatars. I've been having trouble with transparency in my Avatars. The color from my background on my webpage keeps showing through on some of my lighter Av's. Does any one have a suggestion as to how I can remedy the problem?
