: : : : : : : Always a tricky situation, deciding if someones stolen your avatars or just used the same source.
: : : : : : : We always recommend that an avatar creator adopts a simple naming scheme for their avatars, eg, dd001 or mike1, mike2, etc
: : : : : : : This makes it easier to track theft since alot of people posting avatars as their own dont change the filenames.
: : : : : : : About 75% of avatar theft claims made to the guild are innocent mistakes by newbies, only a few people create sites from other
: : : : : : : peoples work deliberately.
: : : : : : : : The other day I came across a site that
: : : : : : : : I thought had my avatars on it! So I
: : : : : : : : contact this person, and of course she
: : : : : : : : really upset with me of accusing her!
: : : : : : : : Well it turned she and I both use the
: : : : : : : : same materials to make our avatars with.
: : : : : : : : We both scan from the same catalogs! I
: : : : : : : : guess you can say we both have excellent
: : : : : : : : taste!
: : : : : : : : And yes I did apologize to her! I felt
: : : : : : : : kinda dumb about really!
: : : : : : : : With scanners becoming more affordable,
: : : : : : : : more and more people are using them to
: : : : : : : : make avatars with. (Personally I love
: : : : : : : : my scanner!)
: : : : : : : : And usually folks like to make sexy
: : : : : : : : avatars so the same materials are being
: : : : : : : : used over and over again. So it makes
: : : : : : : : it kinda tough to decide if the avatars
: : : : : : : : are really stolen or if they just had
: : : : : : : : the same idea as you.
: : : : : : : : Just food for thought!
: : : : : : : : Everyone Take Care!

: : : : : : Hi Everyone! When I come across a Gallery, and
: : : : : : the avs look suspicious, I ck the file name. I have
: : : : : : come across AVS with file names from other gallerys.
: : : : : : The thief doesn't even bother to change the filename.
: : : : : : So, like Devalin says....if we all use our unique
: : : : : : file name for our avs in our Gallerys, it will save
: : : : : : the confusion somewhat. But of course, a lot of
: : : : : : smart thieves change the names. So ....that will make
: : : : : : it harder.
: : : : : I have noticed that some newer sites seem to be carrying some *older av's*. I am wondering if all the changes from all the Vp's (ie from VP1-2-2.1-excite-zdchat) is promtpting some new site builders to believe that they can take av's from established sites and not be caught. The object of creating avatar sites, at least to me, is that of the creativity. It may be emcumbent upon some of us VP *oldsters* to periodically check our old av's. Especially if any of you are like me and have tons of discs of av's that I have collated through the several years of VP's existence. It concerns me that *older* av's may be appearing in newer sites and this may be an issue we will be addressing through time. Thanks....Trev

: : : : Hi peoples,
: : : : its good to see that some other people out there realize that with thousands of people trying to do the same thing ... some of them are gonna try the same stuff ;) (ie. scan from the same pics, tape from the same videos, crop the same web clips etc.) Although there may be some lazy and devious av stealers out there, don't always assume the worst check it out first :) I myself spent hours making pics and then I went to someone else's site and saw the same pics! (almost) sizes were slightly different don't rush to judgements...just my 2 cents :)

: : : Well I have run into this situation already from
: : : the other side of the coin. I have been approached
: : : as an avatar thief, luckly I was able to
: : : straighten things out quickly, but it does bare
: : : checking the facts out before jumping on someone.
: : : Well there is my input. Thanx and I'm glad to be a
: : : member now.

: : Hi! Well, I myself am pretty new to the Guild here,
: : however, I have also seen other sites with avs very
: : similar to my own. Well, as I do make them all either
: : from pics found online, scanned by me, or (in the future),
: : pics of my own personal stuff, I just don't see what the
: : big deal is... We all basically "steal" the pics we use
: : to create the majority of our avs so why are we picking
: : on the people who want to "steal" ours? I don't know,
: : it's my personal oppinion I guess. It all just seems a
: : little petty to me. If you want to here more about my
: : little "oppinions" feel free to check out my little "extra"
: : on my avatar site. Just click where it says Avatar Authenticity.

: : You guys and girls all have a GREAT day/evening/whatever.. hehe
: : Bonny Girl
: Just remember Bonny Girl, all the hard work you put into resizing and touching up those av's. You are right in a sense that the pictures are stolen from other sites ect. But it is your artistic ability that made them into avatars not someone elses. Your keen eye for beauty and originality is being stolen not the picture that you stole to create it. That is how I feel on the subject and why it angers me when people do this.
: JoDee
I can almost see your point of view. I guess it's to each his own. Personally, if someone likes my av enough that they feel it is worthy of being on their site, I say go for it! I just ask that they be polite enough to put a link back to my page and give me some credit for it. Avs only take a minute to make so to me, it's no big deal. Everyone has their own individual views on it. For me, I feel confident enough in myself to know that I was the one who made the av so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other who does what with my avs. If they try to claim them as their own, they are only fooling themselves.
Well, I will get off my soapbox for now. hehe. You all have a wonderful day!! =)
