: Hi! Well, I myself am pretty new to the Guild here,
: however, I have also seen other sites with avs very
: similar to my own. Well, as I do make them all either
: from pics found online, scanned by me, or (in the future),
: pics of my own personal stuff, I just don't see what the
: big deal is... We all basically "steal" the pics we use
: to create the majority of our avs so why are we picking
: on the people who want to "steal" ours? I don't know,
: it's my personal oppinion I guess. It all just seems a
: little petty to me. If you want to here more about my
: little "oppinions" feel free to check out my little "extra"
: on my avatar site. Just click where it says Avatar Authenticity.

Well...guess I'm going to throw my 2 pennies in the pot. (again....)
Agreed that it doesn't take long to create and avatar. But I spend hours a day downloading graphics, sometimes 50megs a day or more. All these have to be sorted, and the ones I want to use selected and filed away. There is a tremendous amount of time involved in this process.
In my opinion, the people who 'borrow' our work are taking our time, our creativity, our artistic efforts and our originality, not simply a 48 x 64 picture.
In my case, I pay for my webspace. If I lose my traffic because my avatars are widely available elsewhere, what would be the point in maintaining my site?
I think it's more a matter of respect for other people's time and efforts than it is an ethical question.
(clink...clink.....2cents paid) *grin*
