A TRIBUTE TO HENRY and KATHERINA (DUERKSEN) ROSE
Written by Niece Agnetha Duerksen
Henry Rose married Katherina Duerksen in a triple wedding ceremony (along with Katherina’s brother Heinrich, sister Aganetha and their spouses) on October 30, 1889. They lived in Marion County, Kansas south of Lehigh. Henry, Katherina and Helen, the three children were born to them in Kansas. Uncle Henry Rose followed the occupation of a blacksmith. Later they made their home in California, where the children were married. They had six grandchildren.
Husband Heinrich, Henry, Helen, Daughter Katherina, Katherina
In 1922, Aunt Katherina and Helen came to visit Kansas. It was a great experience. Aunt Katherina’s friendliness and Helen’s gayety and liveliness created a spirit of happiness and joy among the relatives. I remember Aunt Katherina as a kind and sweet lady.
A letter written by Ed Duerksens in May 1924 tells about Aunt Katherina’s illness and funeral. She had lost much weight when buried. She made a full commitment to the Lord before she died.
