BIOGRAPHY
Peter's mother, Katherina Goertzen, died just short of Peter's 2nd birthday. When Peter was 7 years old his family came to American from Fischau, South Russia, on the ship "Vaterland." On July 4, 1877, they arrived at Burrton, Kansas. Amid pops and bangs they stepped off the train. They had left Russia mostly for military reasons and now they feared they were in the midst of war. But no, they had only experienced their first 4th of July. They settled near Inman, Kansas.
Peter had no formal education, but learned how to read English and German. By taking a correspondence course he became a licensed Veterinarian.
Peter married Helena Regehr on August 7, 1897 and had ten children, two of which died in infancy. Peter passed away at age 83.
