Jim Brickman's music isn't limited to audio cassettes and compact discs it's also available on several video tapes. Most, but not all, of the videos on this page were originally intended for a professional audience critics, journalists and music television. These "Electronic Press Kits," as they're called, have been dubbed to VHS format, and made available through Jim Brickman's VIP Fan Club. The videos typically contain a short, produced interview, followed by several music videos. This page attempts to catalog all of Jim's videos, providing a brief summary of the interviews on the tapes as well as a listing of all the music videos contained on them. If a video cassette symbol is shown next to the title information, it means that the video did not come with a special picture cover. In the music video listing, if a song title is underlined, it means a clip of that video is available. Click on that song title to load the clip. You will, however, need to have the QuickTime player installed on your system. It's free, and can be downloaded from Apple's QuickTime web site. Jim opens the segment by talking about how even though he was a very successful commercial jingle writer, he wasn't really writing music to his potential. He says he's removed those limits as a recording artist, now writing personal music music filled with emotion. He also strives for emotion not perfection during his recording sessions. He says when he plays music technically perfect, it sounds lifeless and devoid of emotion. Nowadays, he's been known to walk into the studio to record songs even when they're only half written. Jim also talks about how some of the titles came about. "Valentine" was written because he didn't think there were enough songs with the word "valentine" in the title. He called the album "Picture This" because he wants you to listen to the album and picture whatever you want. He also remarked about how his music appeals to a wide audience, saying sometimes even people who like heavy metal need to chill out. Martina McBride is also in the interview segment. She talks about how she was impressed with the song and what a wonderful, emotional message it sends. |

Jim talks about how the Christmas album came about. He had performed holiday selections for various Windham Hill compilation discs and says every time those songs were played on the radio, stations would be flooded with call, asking if that was a track from Jim's "new Christmas CD." He eventually figured there was quit a bit of demand for a full Christmas album. Jim also talks about how music is his way of communicating instead of words, music is his language. Jim remarks that "The Gift" album contains a number of big name guest performers, and says the success of the duet "Valentine" probably convinced them that "The Gift" was a safe project to participate in. Jim concluded the interview, talking about how he selected the songs for the album. He says he went with more classical songs, which are rich emotion, rather than the lifeless, overdone "pop" standards. Susan Ashton, Collin Raye and The Point of Grace are also interviewed. |

Jim talks about how he's limited to what he can do on a solo piano album. He says he had a number of ideas for songs and pairings with various vocalists, but the songs would have felt out of place on his solo piano albums. That's how this album came about. With all the different genres of music represented, he says this album feels a lot like a soundtrack to a movie. Jim and Anne Cochran talk about the song "After All These Years." Jim explains how it's meant for adult contemporary radio. Anne says that while the song will likely become a fixture of anniversaries, she says the song is also appropriate for her friendship with Jim. They had met in high school. Dave Koz is also featured on the video and talks about his duet with Jim, "Partners In Crime." Dave mentions that Jim came to him with a "germ" of an idea for the song, and the two immediately sat down to write it. Jim says they wrote the whole song in about 20 minutes and then went out for lunch. Peabo Bryson has a segment on the video, talking about his song, "My Heart Belongs To You." He talks about how everyone spends their life, hoping to find that one person to give their heart to, through goods times and bad. He says that feeling is what his song is about. David Grow appears on the video to talk about his song, "That's What I'm Here For." He talks about he met Jim through the jingle business. Jim had asked David for a sample tape of him singing, but the only demos he had were for songs he had written. Jim was so impressed with the quality of David's songs that he invited him to be a part of the project. Larry Stewart concludes the video, talking about how it's much easier for a macho guy like him to express himself through song than through words. |

11. The Gift The music is the same as is on Jim's "The Gift" album. The song features the vocals of Colin Raye and Susan Ashton. The video is different than the one included on The Gift - Electronic Press Kit. The EPK video was filmed in a studio, with Jim, Susan and Collin performing together. This video is the same version played on music television, and is set in a house, with all three performing in separate rooms separately. At several points in the video, Collin is singing next to a running film projector, watching Susan perform on the screen. |
