She looks at me through limpid eyes, She sets my spirit free; With all the love-light shining there, For all the world to see. She snuggles closer by my side, I feel her body heat; Her breath is warm upon my face, Her lips are moist and sweet. No need to speak, no need to think, No need for guilt of lies; A relationship like hers and mine, could never be disguised. She sleeps beside me all through the night, And when the sun comes up, She yawns she barks she waggs her tail, This delightful little pup. I had a cocker spaniel before I came here last fall. She was 14; totally deaf and blind, And I loved her most dearly----- she was my best friend. I really contemplated taking her with me in the car, But knew it wasn't fair to remove her From a place she knew only by smell. So I had to put her down---- hardest thing I ever did in my life. I wrote this poem, and another, Thinking of all the good times we had Together through the years and Left it as an epitaph on her headstone. Think me a bit off the wall on this one, But if you ever have the fortune and misfortune To go through what I did, You'll understand exactly where I'm coming from. By Blaine
