Welcome to The Art of Wood

Welcome to our virtual gallery!
We are glad to present here two recent works of
Mr. Lubomir Ivanov from Sofia, Bulgaria.

This skillful woodcarver has had a most unusual life. Educated to be an electrical engineer, he lost the use of his right hand in an accident and had to reshape his life. Refusing to obey his disability, he turned to what hitherto had been his hobby, photography and, predominantly, woodcarving. He prefers black-and-white photography and his landscapes, townscapes and portraits meet the highest standards of graphic art. In woodcarving, he is even more ambitious, aiming to reproduce on wood the works of one of the greatest artists ever lived, Albreht Durer who Longfellow called "The Evangelist of art".

Lubomir works painstakingly, with greatest attention to every detail. He tries to remain loyal to the original, reproducing it as close as possible. The only notable exception to this staunch rule of his is a detail in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse where he has bestowed the image of his own mother on the face of the female figure at the bottom center.

Lubomir (Lubo) Ivanov will be pleased to welcome any interested party to his house.
He could be contacted at his e-mail address ivanov_ljubo@yahoo.com.

Much as he dislikes it, he will be prepared to sell some of his works at negotiable prices. His works are most suitable for big halls of public buildings but they can also be accommodated in more spacious flats.

His next ambitious project is to reproduce on wood some of Rubens’s works.
