Welcome to the Shimer Family Webring
Newsletter!
August 29th, 1999
Well, my time in Germany is closing down
and I have mixed feelings about leaving. I am going to miss the
beautiful countryside and the history that can be seen in every building
and little town. I guess in a way I feel like our ancestors must
have felt leaving their homeland for a strange and far away country. But
I will be happy to return to the good ol' US of A this November
to my family and my friends.
I am completely amazed at the amount of information
I have received from members of this family
since the last newsletter! It is fully about 4 inches
of paper; I am finding it hard to add it all as I receive
it! I would like to thank Penny Spencer
again for her hard work and dedication to this research. I have begun
adding the new data from Daniel Wyles Shimer to the present day. This
should be up on my uploaded genealogy within the next couple days. Penny
also has checked into the availability of Allen R. Shimer's "The History
and Genealogy of the Shimer Family in America" from Barnes and Noble Books.
She emailed me and said the title through B&N is Shimer, History
and Genealogy of Shimer Families in America, Higginson Book Company,
1992 publishing date, 148 Washington Street, Salem, Mass 01970. Telephone:
(508)745-7170. The ISBN # for the paperback is 0832827231 ($22.00),
and the hardback is 0832827223 ($32.00). Let me know if you have success
in obtaining the book from this source. Barnes and Noble can be found
on the internet at
www.barnesandnoble.com.
I have also added a link you'll find below to
Eva Duke's Home Page. She is busy conducting
research into the descendants of Jacob Scheimer and has added a substantial
amount of Allen R. Shimer's book to her pages. This has been a monumental
task and I want to thank you Eva for all your support!
I would also like to thank
George Shimer for mailing me his
complete genealogy. I am still going through it all and I am trying my darndest
to get it added to my genealogy and uploaded as fast as I can. Thanks again
George, you've been a wonderful help! Penny Spencer got to visit George and
his wife Roberta and family back at the beginning of August for a little
mini-reunion of sorts, and to compare some notes after dinner. Maybe it's
the start of a grander scale reunion in the future?
I have a couple ideas running around
in my head for some future changes to my Shimer Family History Page.
Let me know what you think. First, I would like to add a military history
and tribute page; starting with the data I have received from Allen
R. Shimer's book. This copy was graciously mailed to me by
Rob Shimer along with some wonderful
pictures and a furlough form from his Great, Great Grandfather James' Civil
War company. I would love to have any information you would like to send
me about any relative and ancestor who served in the military. Second,
I would like to add a contacts list of those of us who
are currently conducting research into the Shimer family. If you would
like to volunteer to help with any research, let me know by email and I'll
include your name in this list.
In closing, with this newsletter I have added
a few new links below; one is to the Curtis Family Web Pages where you can
find the data from Daniel Scheimer through Daniel Wyles Shimer to the modern
day. Again, I welcome any input, by email, guestbook entry or smail, that
you are willing to share with the family. I still encourage any information,
however trivial, that you might want to share. This could include stories,
reunion information, links, genealogy, etc. If you email me with genealogy
data , I would be happy to forward this to everyone I have on my address
book. I would greatly welcome any guest writers to this newsletter! I will
try to do my best to manage this (the darn Army just keeps getting in the
way!), so any help would be appreciated.
LOL!

P.S. I almost forget the most important piece
of information I received all month! SRA
Richard Shimer, who is
stationed in Italy and is a son of George and Roberta Shimer of Idaho,
and his wife Kim had a baby girl last Monday the 23rd of August! She weighed
8 pounds and was 20 inches long, and both the baby and mother are doing great!
Congratulations are in order!
