Desire & The Slow, Cold
Death
I want you
as water
to the animal
trapped by rings of blazing fire
flesh beginning to heat.
I want you as a life raft
to the passenger
overboard in darkest night
held by the swollen passions of
the oceans dark, wet arms.
I want you as food to the starving
as life to the dying
light to the blind
sound to the deaf
hands tied behind my back
legs strapped to the floor
mouth taped
eyes forced to see
and you lay across
the great cold bed,
and tell me
"not tonight."
