Biography

Joy & Lara were discovered in 1998 by visiting Irish 'supergroup' Lunasa while playing at a Sydney venue. The band invited the pair to support them at an up-coming Basement show, a performance which led in turn to the duo being chosen to open for both Art Garfunkel and Leo Kottke at the Sydney State Theatre, as well as Bruce Cockburn on his sell-out tour. Since then, they have toured as far as Perth and performed the length of the east coast including the prestigious Port Fairy, Woodford and Blue Mountains Folk Festivals as well as opening for Lunasa on their subsequent tours to Australia.

In May 1999 ABC Radio playlisted the song Papa Luigi's from their debut CD 'These Strange Days'. In May 2000 Joy & Lara toured nationally with Luka Bloom and released their second full-length CD 'Thin Ice', a collection of original
songs exploring the fragility of life and love. The title track was immediately added to ABC playlists around the country. Joy and Lara are currently recording their third album due for release early 2005.

JOY originally hails from Perth. Since relocating to Sydney she has contributed harmonies to many of Australia's well known acts. She was a formative member of pop group The Whipper Snappers, co-writing the band's Top 10 indie single You Never Look, charting commercially with a rendition of Russell Morris' Sweet, Sweet Love and causing a minor sensation with an adaptation of Stairway to Heaven for Andrew Denton's Money or the Gun series on ABC TV.
