17th November, 2004 update
Greetings Friends,
Yes, we are still here! Thanks to everyone who came along to Songbird,
a great night of music with us opening the night, followed by the
gorgeous Kara Grainger, the ever beautiful Jackie Bristow and finally
the stunning Abby Dobson. It was a magical night for everyone and
hopefully we will do another one soon.
As mentioned in our last update, we have been in the studio
recording our forthcoming - thirdcoming - album. It's been a great
process and we are over halfway and very excited about getting
that out to the world and doing some shows in support of that.
There will be songs not yet heard by J&L audiences, so we hope
to surprise and delight.
Our next show will be our Xmas show which is fast upon us. We'd
love to see as many friendly faces as can make it, and we are
sure there will be some surprise guests and free for all sing-alongs,
so we hope to see you there.
02 June, 2004 update
Can't believe I haven't updated this site for so long! Sorry
if you didn't hear in advance about the great gig at the Vanguard
on April 29 for Wren's CD launch, or all the brilliant Lunasa
supports in May. Anyway hopefully you're on our mailing list so
you did get the info and if you did come along thanks, and we
hope you enjoyed them. We've been having a great time!
We've also been into Ginsberg Studios and put down 3 songs for
our new album - Lara, Home and Gravity (an unexpected addition
late one night, completely unrehearsed after a few rather nice
drops of red!)
Anyway, upcoming events are:
June 3, tomorrow night, live on FBI some time between 8 - 10
June 4, at the Basement 8.30 supporting the truly wonderful
Diana Ahnaid who I haven't seen for ages but is a big talent with
a great song on JJJ at the moment. We'll be performing with the
Tight Outfit again aka. Piers Twomey (The Fragments/gorgeous husband!)
on bass, and Andy Kell (Astro Tabasco/equally fabulous) on sax.
After that we'll be back in the studio next weekend so more
updates soon.
Cheers,
J
26 February, 2004 update
Just before I go on, thankyou Bellingen, the Cool Creek Cafe,
Gaynor, 2BBB and ABCCoffs for a wonderful weekend and one of our
most enjoyable shows ever. We hope to get back up there much sooner
next time.
Sunday, February 29
Footbridge Theatre, Sydney Uni
Sunday is V Day around the entire planet! Zillions of countries
and cities are staging performances of the amazing Vagina Monologues
play which ran for a sold out season here a couple of years ago.
Lara and I went and saw it at the time at the Valhalla Theatre
in Glebe, and thought it was brilliant. So we're thrilled to be
performing in this one-off version this weekend. All proceeds
from the show will be going to charities supporting women and
protecting them against violence so it's a good cause as well
as hopefully a great night out. We'll be playing Goodbye My Friend
early on in the show...starts at 5pm, nearly sold out, be quick!
Tuesday, March 2
Beach Road Hotel, Bondi Beach
Peccadillo supporting Greta Gertler & Band
Greta's still in town and still attracting great crowds and lots
of interest wherever she plays, but not for much longer - she'll
be heading back to New York again soon for who knows how long.
So make sure you catch one of her shows while she's here, she's
very special! And that rare beast Peccadillo (featuring Greta,
Peter & Lara (Fourplay) and Joy, and maybe even our old drummer
Nic (??) will be opening the night. It will be a lot of fun -
8.30 - 9pm'ish start. Hope to see you there...
Or if not, it may be because you're up the road at the Hoey seeing
the amazing FRAGMENTS, and then you'll be excused. Seriously though,
Piers, Damian, Mark and Christos are in the process of redefining
what's cool about indie rock and it's very exciting to be around.
They're destined for big things this year, so if you like a bit
of noisy guitar and inventive rhythm section with your great songs
and melodic harmonies, get along to see them soon.
Friday, March 12
The Rocks Square - 11am - 2pm
Well Lara and I haven't done this gig for a long time - it's one
of our old faves, we get to play every song we ever learned plus
try out some newies on an unsuspecting lunch crowd. If you work
in the city, please come down and request some songs - we guarantee
at least 8 bars of anything!
12 January, 2004 update - new gigs!
Tuesday, January 13
Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi
with the very lovely Jackie Bristow and band. Night starts at
8.30 and we're on first so make sure to come early, and stay on
to see Jackie as she's pretty special!
Saturday, January 24
Cool Creek Cafe, Bellingen
Our second time to this beautiful part of the world. It's a long
weekend so if you feel like escaping Sydney and a 6 hour leisurely
country drive, please come along...
Also don't miss Greta Gertler while she's in town...
Sunday, January 18
Livebait Festival, Bondi Pavillion
... following up on her highly successful CD launch at the Basement
last week. You can buy a copy of her CD ' The Baby That Brought
Bad Weather ' in advance from any good record store.
25 November, 2003

Hotel in Wollomoolloo as part of a week-long string festival.

here soon...
Other gigs coming up not to be missed...

songs and their forthcoming hit single 'The Fall'. If you love
great melodies, harmonies and indie rock you won't want to miss
this headline show!

Fourplay - no introduction needed but if you haven't seen Lara
and the guys perform for a while this promises to be a very special
gig in a very special venue...
Frid 5th Dec, The Green Square Hotel, Sydney 10:45pm
Butterfly9 - no doubt familiar to those who watched The Secret
Life of Us, our very talented friends Suzy and Matt will be performing
great new songs from their forthcoming album.
Wed 17th Dec, The Basement
Craving Record launch (see below) featuring amazing local singer/songwriters
Jackie Bristow, Tania Bowra and Kara Grainger.
Mon 29th Dec, The Tilbury
J&L Xmas show!
Mon 5th Jan 2004, The Basement
Greta Gertler CD launch of 'The Baby that Brought Bad Weather'.
Amazing album, unique and compelling entertainer, this is gonna
be a big one. As most of you know Lara, Joy and Peter (Fourplay)
used to play with Greta in chamber pop group Peccadillo before
she relocated to New York. She's not here for all that long so
make the most of this opportunity to experience Greta's music
live while she's in town, and definitely grab a copy of her album
- it's a must-have!
11 November, 2003
Well, after a year-long hiatus we're pleased to announce that
we're back and currently completing songs for our third album
to be recorded in early 2004! We recently performed two sold-out
shows at Sydney's premiere live venue The Basement in October
supporting fantastic Irish troubador Brian Kennedy, and will be
doing more shows soon.
This page will continue to be updated with news of up-coming gigs
and anecdotes from the studio once we bunker down, so make sure
you add us to your bookmarks. Or if you'd like to receive email
updates from us, please write to lara@cravingrecords.com
and we'll keep you informed of what's happening in our world and
the best gigs to go to - not just ours, but all our talented friends
as well!
The biggest news at the moment is that Lara's launching her new
record label (yes that's right!) Craving Records at the Basement
on Dec 17th. It'll showcase three of her acts - Tania Bowra, Jackie
Bristow and Kara Grainger - all phenomenally talented singer/songwriters
so it promises to be a great night. Come along, be a part of history
and witness the birth of a great new venture supporting worthy
local talent!
And make sure you come and introduce yourselves to us so we can
put a face to the email address.
Talk again soon...Love, J & L
