TAKE ME AS I AM

I never claimed to be perfect,
I only claim to be me,
never perfect, never flawless,
just the only person I can be.
I held back in what I told you,
perhaps the wrong thing to do,
but I held back for one reason,
simply because I didn't want to lose you.
I began to feel safe,
within the friendship we shared,
it brightened my whole world,
to know that someone even cared.
But when you started to criticize,
things began to go wrong.
I can't change the way I am,
I must play my own tune and sing my own song.
You must take me as I am,
or don't take me at all,
you can choose to accept my faults,
or you can turn away..it's your call...
