A PRICE TOO HIGH TO PAY

I was talking to a friend last night
and when she heard the things I said,
she couldn't look me in the eyes,
she just sat and hung her head.

I had told her that I had been upset
and I had been feeling kind of down,
because the man I cared about
was seen with someone else in town.

He had told me that he loved me
and that he would never stray,
and how I meant the world to him
and that he'd never go away.

Suddenly she said those words
that I'd never thought I'd hear,
that she was the one that he had been with,
then down her cheek ran a silent tear.

She said she would regret it
until her dying days,
for now she had lost her best friend
and it was a price too high to pay.
