Team Robo Master
Team Robo Master BB 3.0
Robo Master began life as a 16"x22" rectangular bot that was severely overweight. With some agressive sawzalling and creative bending of titanium armour, the bot began to take shape... with .5 lbs to spare. Whew!
Robo Master 1.0 fought the sixth fight of the preliminaries and was quickly eliminated. Having finished the robot at 3:00 am that morning, I had not practiced the driving nor had I even seen a live fight up til then. Robo Master proved to be a rugged and solid bot that was too slow and difficult to control for an anxious and nervous driver. We were beat by Matts Bammer who proceeded to run through the preliminaries on to the TV rounds. Congratulations Jeff Vasquez.
Here is the team. A very suportive "Robot Widow" wife and two very enthusiastic children
Our first fight at Battlebots 3.0 May 2001 on Treasure Island was an incredible experience. The pit was filled with teams and robots from around the country. One could not begin to describe the wild robot designs and concepts. We were placed in the "VIP" area away from the "main" pit. Little did I know the teams we were stationed next to would later become friends that we would see over and over over the years at various robotic combat events.
For BattleBots 4.0, I returned with Robo Master v1.5. Same basic design but this time with a new drive train consisted of 4 harbor Freight 18 volt trim saw motors, NiCad instead of lead-gel batteries and 36 volts for the lifter, and a new Hitec controller. Our first fight was against one of our pit neighbors from 3.0, Team Daisy. We won by 23-22 split decision although Daisy put a nice 2 inch gash on the front of R.M. Our second fight was against UGV Scorpion.  A very nice looking bot built using Astroflight motors for the drive train and a solid welded unibody armour.  UGV damaged our soft aluminum lifting plate and we lost by judges decision.
My Info:
Team Robo Master has been building combat based robots since 2001. Our team was named by my son Forrest who at the time was a big fan of Star Wars and the Jedi Master concept.
