Joy's World

Welcome to my online photo album. This is our home in Northern Utah, on the Wellsville mountain range, overlooking Cache Valley. It is primarily a dairy and farming area, with industry moving in around us on the other side of the mountain range along the Wasatch front. I work at the Ice Arena in Logan as their Marketing Director, and I design and create custom jewelry using antique trade beads. My husband works for a worldwide automotive safety products company at their U.S. headquarters in Ogden, about an hour from our home.
The nearest big town to us is Logan, across the valley from us. Utah State University is located there. Our little town of Mendon has no schools or stores, but has a post office, a volunteer fire station, and four pop machines.

Quality of Life

I love having the Wellsville Mountains in our backyard but most of our activities are in Logan. My daughter has dance classes, ice skating lessons, and more. Her dance group performs at many Utah events including the 2002 Olympic Games events. She travels and competes regularly with her figure skating and recently won first place medals at the Utah Winter Games and the Jackson Hole Invitational competition.

Our Family

My son is an avid bmx biker, rockclimber and snowboarder, and is a student at Weber State University in Ogden.

Home on the Range

The fields below our house are planted with hay and I have an excellent view of the Cache Valley and orderly little plots of farmland from my office loft, where I spend a lot of time on the computer and the internet.

This area used to be known as Willow Valley and was famous for Mountain Man Rendezvous in the 1800's. If you let your mind wander you can almost see the smoke from the campfires and the white canvas of tee-pees and camp tents. We attend the regional Rendezvous and are developing an interest in trade-era collectibles. We are always looking for old beads from the same era for our own growing collection.

And in our SPARE time...

I am a frequent visitor to the ebay auction to scout for everything from blue fish clothing to trade beads, and to post and sell my extras of all. I continue to work on my freelance writing projects & newsletters, plus implement the ice arena's marketing projects, and my custom jewelry is on display at Fuhriman's gallery in Logan. I will be an artist at Logan's Summerfest this year as well.
