It was an afternoon flight to the famous state that spawned Elvis.  I had the window seat which is normally what i get when flying.  I enjoy looking out the window at the world below me.  Marvel at the beauty of the clouds, which when full, looks like an endless field of snow or big cotton balls.
Looking down between the clouds you see the different patches of the earth.  The houses, cars, roads, other buildings look so small, that you think a person built a model.
The person next to me was a graphic art designer from California who had family in Raleigh.  We yacked quite a bit about different things.  Much like most strangers do.  Different paths of life, different ways of getting there.  She was probably in her mid to late 40's.
At a point, we exhausted some of the topics and watched out the window's quietly.  She sighs then says, "I never get tired of the view up here, to me it's heaven like."
I admit, that i have the same thoughts from time to time.  When in the presence of such situations.  I can only imagine what it's like to see the earth from space for the first time.
But beyond the thoughts of the creator of such beautiful things and wonderful moments that you get to enjoy them.  Such is flying, between the take off to the landing.  You are praying that you get to where you are going safely.
Be it different spiritual forces for different people.  God, Allah, Buddha to name a few.  For those that don't believe in a being of some sort, Fate.  Either way.  There is a belief system going on.  Doesn't make anyone more rightous than another.
Over the christmas holiday, 20 car bombs exploded on the Island of Jakarta in front of six churchs.  It was a case of Muslims vs Christians.  Though both religions, killing is a sin, people in the name of religion and some sort of god, attack and kill people.  I have to wonder.  What makes them so righteous and judgemental that they fail to abide by the laws of the religion they are supposedly showing support for..
My best friend is over in Jakarta right now, has been since last August doing a "Mission" for a school over there.  Fortunately, he and his wife where in Bali at the time.
It amazes me what people will do in the name of some kind of god.  It amazes me to think that if weren't for religion, there would hardly be any wars.  It's rather sad.
But, while I was in the air, fascinated that I'm able to be on this mechanical beast and also able to view the world beneath, I didn't have anything of this in mind.  I was just content to enjoy the life that has temporarily given to me, enjoy the moments of seeing the wonders that whether in the name of science or in the name of religion has given me to see.
Right before we started to descend for landing, It was partly cloudy over the greater Nashville Area.  There was a spot under the clouds where the sun peaked through as it was setting.  As the reddish, pinkish, orangish rays came up through the clouds, giving them a Kool Aid look.  We looked down at the sun through the hole in the sky.
And I had to agree, it was "heaven like".
