Dinamo Kiev

Adored and loved by all Ukrainian soccer fans, this team can be miraculous and at the same time heart-breaking, upsetting and exciting. With it's outstanding ability to turn the rhythm of the match at the crucial point of the last few minutes of the match (most recently shown in this year's last-second victory over Alborg of Denmark in the Champions League), Dinamo is itself most vulnerable 30 seconds after scoring a goal.

This is the very dear passion of our family's (ALL of us!). Getting to see each and every one of these matches at the Olympic stadium right across the street from us has always been an additional bonus to working and living in Ukraine.

Andriy Shevchenko (recently acquired by AC Milan for $25 million, the highest transfer price ever paid for a player from the former Soviet Union) is shown at right, hoisting the Ukrainian league champion's cup.

It's been a tough month for Ukrainian soccer fans, as the national squad was eliminated from contention in the Europe 2000 tournament by lowly Slovenia (no offense) in a Snow Bowl blizzard of a game that really didn't allow our players to exhibit their superior speed and skill. (I'm NOT bitter). Then, Dinamo just barely squeeked into the next round of the Champions League tournament, where they've done well the past two years. This year, however, we've got to get past Real Madrid, Munich Bayern, and some other killer team. Lesya and I hope to see the boys in person but it's getting cold, they play outdoors, and the last time we went to a game in winer, Lesya got pelted with an ice-ball. Ouch. So you might just see me sitting on the couch, dressed in my Ukrainian colors and Dinamo scarf, rooting on the team from the warm and safe confines of home. Di-na-mo!!
