OPEN LOT CARAVAN

The original full-sized caravan, from which this model is derived, is owned by Mr Gordon Boswell and kept at his family's museum in Lincolnshire.  This Open Top is a comparatively modern caravan compared with most of the others in this collection.  It was built in the late 1930s and is equipped with rubber tyres.

Inside the Open Lot the bedchamber is tiered to give more space for drawers, thus greatly increasing the storage capacity of the caravan.  However, this does mean that the bed is much higher above the floor level than was usual.  The caravan is highly decorated outside using a plum colour scheme, with scrollwork and motifs.  Some of the decoration is finished in gold leaf.
